Author Spotlight: A.B. Alvarez Wed, 12 Jul 2017 18:37:28 +0000 A.B. Alvarez answers:

What is the story behind Kidnapping Anna?
Kidnapping Anna is the story of Anna Wodehouse and how she finds herself abandoned by the one person she thought could always count on in her life: her father. Even with proof that he had kidnapped her when she was 2 years old, she waits and waits for him to return until finally, her heart broken, she decides to find him herself…so she can kill him. That is enough spoilers. 🙂

When you are not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a regular day job much like everyone else. I work in technical software sales when I am not busy writing stories of death and devastation, and love and redemption.

What was the first story you ever completed?
I like to think the first story I ever really finished was a book I wrote called Maggie’s Monster. It was about a creature who was taking children from a small Arizona town, and a 12 year old girl found in the surrounding desert who is somehow related to the abductions. That was in 2012.

Where did you grow up and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Bronx with my parents and my older brother and younger sister. My father worked in the local pharmacy and my mom would babysit. Between the two of them they made enough money to put the 3 of us through parochial school, eventually buy a condo in Parkchester, which they sold, and then purchased a home in Miami.

What do you feel when you finish reading a great story?
I feel so satisfied after reading a great story that I start reading another book immediately to maintain that high. There is nothing like reading a great story.

What do you feel when you finish writing a story?
I feel exhausted when I finish writing. Kidnapping Anna was an experience I will never have again as it is both my first published novels and my first trilogy, but what a ride. When I read parts of it I am just as amazed as anyone else. Where did that story come from? 🙂

What will you feel? Sat, 01 Jul 2017 18:31:48 +0000 I feel…

What is your dream? When you get up in the morning are you in constant surprise that you are doing something you love? Or do you get up in the morning with the vision of where you want to be and let that motivate you to keep going?

As the publisher here at Brushed Steel Books I have to admit that I never gave a thought to publishing books as much as I have always enjoyed reading them. I mean, seriously, who wants to get involved in all that paperwork and red tape to get stories out to readers who are always hungry for more and better stories? Being a reader rocks! It’s better than being a writer, isn’t it?

Is it?

Actually, it’s not. Our writers love to write as much as you love to read and, as I am fond of telling my daughter, we are well into a Storytelling Renaissance. Shakespeare would be embarrassed to see how many high-quality stories there are in various media and available in so many outlets. I could watch Netflix for months and never see the same show or movie twice, but there is something about the act of creation that makes our perception of our place in the universe just a little more intense. Just a little more personal.

So enjoy the Brushed Steel Books stories. Storytelling has a long and respected history. While the goal of a story can sometimes be to teach a lesson, or to point out something you hadn’t thought of before, their main goal is to make you feel. Feel what? The range of human emotion is so wide all you can see is the horizon around you. That’s a lot of feeling. Our hope is that sometimes you’ll laugh so much you’ll wonder if you will ever stop. At other times you’ll cry so much you’ll want to send us the bill for your tissues.

If our stories inspire you then go out of your way to inspire others. If a particular story doesn’t inspire, hang around. We’ve got more coming.

What will you feel?
